An evolving issue in today's digital age is data security. A recent CBS News Investigation revealed the hidden dangers of digital copier hard drive security. CBS investigative reporters purchased pre-leased machines through a reputable re-seller. These copiers had previously been leased by another company/organization. The hard disk drives had an unthinkable amount of stored confidential information from documents which were scanned, printed, faxed, and copied from the pervious owner. The sensitivity of the information was shocking; criminal backgrounds, individual medical records, and payroll records were recovered through simple electronic restoring procedures.
The conclusion of the investigation is that there are ways to avoid this compromising scenerio, companies and organizations returning their digital copiers can take certain precautions to either "sanitize" the hard drives, or replace and reformat them all together. Below are documents from our manufacturers stating their position on hard drive security, with Konica-Minolta being the leader in Digital MFP security. Models placed in service prior to 2009 may not have this same level of security compliance. Image Systems is capable of providing a certified data security solution for your digital machines.
